With all of Italy currently on lockdown, every single restaurant in the country has closed. Supermarkets and some markets remain open with limited hours. However, if you want to respect the quarantine and stay inside as much as possible, there are several options for staying well-fed with food delivery in Rome.
There are multiple food delivery options in Rome, and many restaurants have chosen to create their own home delivery services in light of unprecedented times. In terms of groceries, you can also have these arrive at your doorstep to minimize outside contact.
In fact, minimizing contact is the name of the game. These services will call you when they arrive, but instruct their drivers to leave the food at a safe distance (at least one meter away) to limit interpersonal contact. Paying in advance via online means is always recommended.
Meal Delivery
These services will drop food off directly at your home or hotel. Order using the apps or web-based services and pay directly online.
Uber Eats: This can be used with your regular Uber account, so no need for a new app. (Yes, Uber black is still legal in Rome). Some of the best options include Retropasta (from the owners of Retrobottega), Supplizio, and soon SantoPalato.
Just Eat: This is one of the most popular food delivery apps in Rome so there are lots of choices. Among them: Sforno (pizza from Stefano Callegari) and Ciao Checca (also for lunch).
Foodys.it: A food delivery service in multiple Italian cities, including Rome. Some of the best options on the platform include Legs (fried chicken and burgers) and Neve di Latte (gelato).
Deliveroo: This is one of our go-to food delivery apps even in normal times because of the wide range of small restaurants included on the platform. Whether you want pizza, gyoza, or Indian food, there are so many options for dinner – and many available at lunch as well.
Glovo: Another popular delivery app option for Rome. Some of the tastiest eateries include Doozo (Japanese) and Fatamorgana (gelato).
Cosaporto.it: This web-based delivery platform includes some of the smaller and tasty shops in the city center. Notably Antico Forno Roscioli and Le Levain.
Grocery Delivery
There are several services that normally offer grocery delivery in Rome. However, these have been fairly overwhelmed during the health crisis. Expect long wait times while more people are stuck at home (e.g. you may be ordering for delivery that is more than a week out), but in normal times these can be sent the same day or next day.
You may want to consider leaving these services available for those who need them most, including elderly neighbors. Note that it is also usually possible to speak to your local alimentari (small food shops) to arrange direct delivery depending on the exact area that you live in.
Esselunga: This is our preferred store for deliveries. They will carry all your groceries up to your door. This is a huge plus if you want to order something like bottled water or other liquids that are heavy to cart back home without a car. The first delivery is free when you make an account.
Carrefour: Carrefour is a popular grocery chain with locations throughout Rome. Some of these stores are even open 24 hours a day (a rarity in Italy). You can order online for direct delivery to your house for a small fee.
Restaurants with Direct Delivery During Health Crisis
Marigold Roma has created a delivery service for their lunches, dinners, and bakery goods. You can find the menu and instructions for ordering here. Deliveries are currently going out Thursday through Sunday, and we have our freezer stocked with their cinnamon twists to brighten lockdown mornings.

Specialty Food
Olivieri 1882 is based in Vicenza and offers incredibly fast shipping directly to your home – even internationally. That means that if you live in Rome, the United States, or anywhere in between, you can enjoy their sweet creations. Their colomba (traditional Easter cake) was awarded the best in the country by Gambero Rosso in 2019 AND they are donated parts of every sale to support Italian hospitals. What are you waiting for? Beppe e i Suoi Formaggi is delivering its exceptional cheeses and deli goods during the crisis. Place your orders Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm via phone (06 68192210) or Facebook private message.
The Circo Massimo Farmer’s Market has had to severely restrict the number of people allowed inside. Luckily, you can get food directly from local producers. They are packing boxes for set prices that can be ordered by phone. They are bit overwhelmed some days so it is best to check their Facebook page for updates.
For zero km (e.g. local) food, you can also shop online via Cuc.bio.

Beer and Wine Delivery
Les Vignerons in Trastevere has you covered with home deliveries if your wine is running low. Contact them via phone (06 64771439), to place an order between 12 pm and 6 pm. They have a great selection of natural wines and crafts beers.
The Trimani wine shop is also now offering home delivery and 20% off their list price while supplies last, through March 31st. Order online for free shipping here.
Specialty coffee bar Faro has teamed up with a wine delivery service to offer three specially currate packages of coffee and booze, which you can find here.
Craft brewery Birra del Borgo is offering free delivery for orders over €50 through April 4, 2020. You can shop their delicious brews here.
