Rome’s Central Market (Mercato Centrale) recently celebrated its first birthday.
The modern market scores major points for having livened up the area and brought some amazing Roman street food options under a single roof.
For savory, you can have your pick from Bonci pizza, Trapizzino, or even Beppe e i suoi Formaggi (plus many more).
But for sweet?
I usually head straight to Cremilla Gelato.
Just as the name sounds, the gelato is cream-yyyy. But it is also all natural and focuses on great seasonal flavors.
The ingredients are sourced from around Italy as much as possible. Go for the cheesecake berries and Bonci pastry dough, or pear and chocolate for an autumnal twist.
I usually always try stracciatella because it is one of my favorites, and the flavor that I use as a baseline to compare to other gelaterie when scoping out the best gelato in Rome.
Though the young gelato maker behind Cremilla is dedicated to true Italian gelato, he is inspired by his travels.
So I am looking forward to seeing what flavors come out next.
And if you’re looking for more suggestions in the area? Here’s where to eat near Termini Station.
Cremilla Gelato
Mercato Centrale
Via Giolitti, 36
Termini Station
The market is open every day from 7 am to 12 am (but I’m not sure the gelato is really ready at 7 am).
Yes, stracciatella is my baseline too! Also, I order it when I’m overwhelmed for choice and can’t decide 🙂
Two decent gelato options at Termini: Cremilla and Venchi.
