Chain stores are beginning to proliferate in Rome.
Many Roman teenagers would would be hard pressed to think of doing something other than spend their weekends at the suburban malls, packed into PULL&BEAR and breaking only to eat at McDonald’s.
However, there are spots of shopping sunshine among the international conglomerates, and one of my favorite buying experiences is always at Mercato Monti.
Hosted most weekends in the conference room of the Grand Hotel Palatino, Mercato Monti is an indie shopper’s dream.
From 10 am to 8 pm every weekend from September to June, the space is packed with independent designers.
From onesies, to handmade hats, you can find the perfect gift for yourself or another live human upon whom you would generously like to shower to unique Roman goods.
Mercato Monti even has a DJ at the entrance to disperse any remaining conference room vibes and set the mood while you shop for vintage sunglasses.
In the spirit of research, I was able to find plenty of things to buy during my recent reconnaissance mission.
A new necklace by a duo of designers?
Yes, please.

+1 Wonderful market, just steps from the Cavour metro line (B). Picked up some new, old stock vintage sunnies while shopping there this past week.
What a fantastic purchase!
