My husband Jimmy is the artist in the family.
But that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy flexing my own creative muscles every now and again, which is why I was thrilled to join artist Lauren Lombardo for a night of painting in Rome.
Don’t worry if you have no experience putting brush to palette. Lauren will walk you through all the steps of identifying the colors and proportions.
Though, I’m not going to lie – I was pretty intimidated at the the thought of trying to replicate a Monet!
But sure enough, layer by layer, the image starts to come together.
However, there is also wine included to help you overcome any artistic insecurities that might linger.
Hosted at Alembic bar in Trastevere, the artsy vibe is in already in full effect when you arrive in the stylish space. Hit up the aperitivo first before ordering a drink and settling in before your blank canvas.
(P.S. the beautiful canvases are hand stretched in Naples so there is no skimping on materials, even if you are just starting out).
I became totally absorbed in Monet’s lily pads, but finally took a break to wander around.
It is so fun to see all of the different interpretations of the work at the end of the evening.
And mine?
Well, I tried – and most importantly, I had fun letting myself sink into the process.
The art classes currently take place every other Monday. You can follow Art with Lauren on Facebook, or check Lauren’s website, to know what the next painting will be.
You have to book ahead to ensure there are enough canvases and seats for everyone — but you don’t need any experience painting to join. Lauren will be there the whole time to help you find your inner artist.
Sounds like fun. We have many places like this in the U.S. but doing it in Italy is so much more appealing.
Yes! There is no better setting 😀
Somehow everything in Italy has more romantic twist 😀
