Latteria Garbatella: Relaxed Bar and Lounge in Rome

Latteria Garbatella is the kind of place I would hang out in all the time if it were in my neighborhood.

Granted, Garbatella is NEXT to my neighborhood so the chic but understated bar is still dangerously close.

Think: folk rock playing from vintage speakers and an entrance that is stuffed with mismatched leather lounge chairs.

The low seats make for cozy conversation but there are also vintage table tops if you want to settle in for something to eat.

We went for a quick drink after work. Red wine served with panzanella (a kind of bread salad with tomatoes and basil) and crudités for dipping in olive oil. The aperitivo snack was included in the €5 price of the glass of the wine.

Admittedly, Latteria Garbatella is best known as a cocktail bar, but I need a break from fancy drinks.

If you are looking for more substantial dishes, there is a small (carpaccio and crudo-heavy) selection on the menu.

I would be tempted to dine in the the back room, where a single farmhouse table is set with a cluster of vases.

On a brisk evening, the cool interior was perfect but in the summer most people take advantage of the patio space.
