I often bemoan that lack of cool places to hang out in Testaccio.
As you can see from my postings, I love my neighborhood, and I want to spend a lot of time in this corner of Rome, but there is a dearth of evening options unless you are into teenage nightclubs.
Enter: Stazione di Posta.
Stazione di Posta is actually a Michelin starred restaurant, which we have yet to dine at. However, one evening, faced with plenty of life embracing energy and few options on where to go, we decided to give the cocktail bar a whirl.
Um. First off, MAJOR points on the free welcome cocktail. We got lucky with a SMART car promotion happening outside, and free ‘smart’ cocktails on offer. Light, sweet, and spicy all at the same time? I might have preferred this to the main drink I actually ordered later.
The restaurant is located within Città dell’altra Economia (CAE), beyond the MACRO museum, in the ex-mattatoio.
The old slaughtering house floors have been maintained but the rest of the space is sleek and modern.
I opted for the house negroni sbagliato, while Jimmy opted for his trusted gin and tonic.
Both were perfectly made by the friendly bartender, who took her mixing seriously and made everything possible from scratch.
At €10 a piece, the drinks were standard prices for Rome, even though we got to be in the Michelin-starred setting. Coming around aperitivo time, we were offered complementary olives, tomato spread and fresh focaccia – making it a pretty fancy steal of deal.
