We have lived in Rome for long enough to have embraced at least one Roman tradition:
Leaving in August.
The vacation is over, but excuse me while I pretend that we are still in holiday mode.
Clearly, Jimmy is the Irish one.
But I am the driver.
Which means when I see a castle, I stop.
Dunguaire Castle is located on Galway Bay.
After the heat of Italy in August, the escape to green-gray Ireland with its windswept cliffs was a bit of a relief.
Last year, I had to stop to buy a dark blue, thickly knit jumper just to stay warm.
But I will brave much colder weather, and much more distant places, so long as I can go tramping through the world with this one Irishman.
Here is to hoping your summer travels are taking you to exactly where you want to be.
And to me, Dunguaire Castle was the perfect spot at the perfect time.
Happiest of happy birthdays to my lovely Jim!
