While we aren’t quite on the same level as Milan’s fashion Mecca status, there are still some great places to shop in Rome. You can wander down the back alleys to find artisan workshops, take in Italian luxury brands on Via Condotti or find mega shops along Via del Corso. But my favorite shops tend to be the tucked away spots to find original creations like Marta Ray.
There are three Marta Ray locations in Rome (and one in Florence) but I tend to find myself most regularly outside the Trastevere shop where a rainbow of cute shoes are always on display in the window.
The Made in Italy brand makes lovely ballet flats that are ideal for tackling the cobblestones around the Eternal City. I especially like the laser cutout designs in the leather flats for both the style and The practicality when summer rolls around.
In addition to adorable shoes, Marta Ray also specializes in handbags. The unique shapes and high-quality leather would make for a great Roman souvenir if you are on the hunt for something unique to take home from Italy. I have my eye on one of the soft-sided bags that is large enough for a computer, and I should really go in after it soon because the designs change multiple times per year.
The lovely aesthetic, however, never falters.
