Best Rome Hotels with Pools

This is exactly the time of year in Rome when everyone who is left in the city starts dreaming of leisurely dips in a crystal clear pool.

Rome hotels with pools aren’t super common. It has a lot to do with the restrictions on space within the historic city center. If a pool is a part of your Roman dream vacation, however, you can definitely find a hotel that fits the bill. Hotel pools in Rome range from small, spa-style tubs to rooftop lounges to massive outdoor pools underneath the umbrella pines.

Even if you don’t plan to stay at a hotel with a pool, you can still take advantage of them. Guests always have first dibs, but many of these hotels also sell days passes to give you access to the pools and the facilities for a set price.

So here’s where you can swim while you stay in the Eternal City.

Best Rome Hotels with Pools

Roma Cavalieri:

The best hotel pool in Rome is at Rome Cavalieri. Period. The expansive pool has a beautiful deck, is surrounded by lush green grass, and the service is top tier. Roma Cavalieri is a five-star luxury hotel that is filled with amazing artwork and sits a bit outside of the city center. The hotel’s location means that it has space for its beautiful pool and lovely spa (which also has an indoor pool). There are incredible views down to Rome – and the top floor of the hotel is home to the only 3-Michelin starred restaurant in the city.  Make sure that when you book, you ensure the pool is part of your package. Otherwise, guests pay €20 extra per day to use the pool.

Can you go to the hotel for the day if you aren’t a guest? Yes. You can spend the day at the Roma Cavalieri pool even if you aren’t staying there. Monday through Friday the cost is €45, but on the weekend this goes up to €85 per adult. It is very swanky. Children 6-11 years old pay a discounted rate.

Aldrovandi City Suites

This small hotel in the Parioli area is set in one of the most tranquil neighborhoods in Rome. The residential hotel is composed of suites that all have kitchens or kitchenettes, which means more space than traditional European hotels. The pool is well shaded and quiet, but it is only open until 7 pm. The hotel is close to Villa Borghese, and though some of the rooms are dated, it is comfortable and liveable, with the rare bonus of having its own private place for a swim. The pricey sister property is gorgeous and also has a pool.

Grand Hotel Gianicolo

This is a little gem of a hotel tucked above Trastevere on the Gianicolo hill. The setting feels so far removed from the busy chaos of the Rome city center but it is not out in the middle of nowhere, either. It is a lovely part of the Eternal City that I wouldn’t mind living in someday. In addition to a local, intimate hotel experience you have one of the best pools in Rome. A sparkling little number perfect for cooling off in on those Roman summer days.

Can you go to the hotel for the day if you aren’t a guest? Yes.  Guests get the first pick of the chairs, so it is best to go early and spend the whole day up here if you want to hang out by the pool. Rates range from €25-35 depending on the day of the week.

Radisson Blu Rome Hotel

I love Esquilino for its vibrant market and non-Roman restaurants, but it is not always the first neighborhood that comes to mind for people visiting the city. However, the Radisson is a surprisingly chic and modern hotel not far from Termini. Its crowning glory is absolutely its 7th-floor rooftop pool. Guests still have to pay €15 to use the pool but it is one of the best options near Termini in terms of hotel accommodation.

Can nonguests use this pool? Yep. The rate for the public to use the pool is €65 (Mon – Fri) and €90 (Sat-Sun, holidays). The pool is open from 10 am – 7 pm. I think it is worth it if you are staying here but otherwise, I would go out to the Cavalieri for the day.

Aleph

I think that the Aleph is one of the most romantic hotels in Rome. It is all very grown-up and not exactly the hotel I would pick for kids, but they do have one feature that people of all ages will love: a small but gorgeous rooftop pool. The pool deck is intimate (so its not great for family splash day) but it is perfect for lounging and working on a tan while sipping cocktails. The hotel has a waterfall feature and is a great place for people watching. There is also a spa on the lower floor with a Turkish bath.

Crowne Plaza St. Peter’s

This hotel is located in a very residential area on the edge of Rome – behind Vatican City. There are buses that can take you into town and staying this far out of the city center does come with a few perks. 1. You can often find great rates here. 2. There is plenty of space for the Olympic sized pool. There is also an indoor spa pool in the winter (but you must be over 16 to use it).

Gran Melia Rome

For central accommodation near the Vatican, Gran Melia is a great five-star choice for a Rome hotel with a pool. It feels more like a country villa than a city hotel, even though it is only a 5-minute walk from St. Peter’s. The outdoor pool with cabanas and lounge chairs is the ideal place to catch some Roman sun and cool off between site seeing. For true pampering, they also have a lovely spa. The draping textiles in the rooms and bold images are contemporary without feeling soulless. They even have special family rooms with lots of extras for kids.
