Text how to get from linate airport to milan layered on an image of an airport with a plane in the background

Located just 7 miles (11 km) outside of the city center, Linate Aiport is one of the three Milan airports and the closest airport to the city center. Linate is the second largest of the three Milan airports and the one which you are most likely to fly into if taking a flight within Italy. Luckily, there are lots of options for how to get from Linate Airport to Milan.

However, keep in mind that Milan’s Linate airport will be closed from 27 July to 27 October 2019. If you have a flight scheduled to LIN during those three months, it will actually be re-routed to Malpensa Airport, which is slightly further from the city center.

When you are traveling from Linate Airport to Milan, you have the option of buses, taxis and private transfers, as well as parking on site if you have your own car. Here is everything you need to how about getting from Linate to the city center and vice versa.

Unlike taxis from Malpensa Airport to Milan, taxi from Linate Airport do not have a set price. That means that taxis to and from LIN and Milan city center will use the meter. The trip usually works out to somewhere between €30 and €40 depending on your exact destination.

To be sure of the price, and to have a driver waiting for you at the airport, I always personally use Welcome Pickups. Welcome Picks is the same price as a taxi (about €45 to the center of Milan) but everything is completely prepaid and your driver has all of your destination information in advance. That means there is no risk of extra hidden charges, and there is the added comfort of having someone waiting with your name on a sign at arrivals to take you directly to your waiting sedan. This tends to be the cheapest private transfer service as well, and you can read our review here.

If you prefer a private transfer from the airport to Milan, these can start as low as €45. You can customize your transfer, selecting the type of car that the private driver will use, or even adding accessories such as a car seat. This is also an excellent option if you have a large group because a minivan for seven people can be as low as €60 – making it a cost-effective way to reach the center without hassle. The service is completely prepaid and the driver will drop you at your destination.

Coach buses to Milano Centrale

There are two private buses which run between LIN and Milano Centrale. These will be easier than taking the regular urban bus to the metro and then switching to the subway, but they cost slightly more. Starfly runs Monday through Friday, whereas Air Bus makes the trip from the airport to the train station every day. Both cost €5, leave about every 30 minutes and take around 25 minutes to get between the city and the airport. You can purchase the tickets onboard.

Bus to Linate Airport

From there, you can connect from Line 1 to Line 2 to reach Milano Centrale. You can purchase tickets on board but there will be a small supplement so it is best to buy them from a tabacchi or newsstand ahead of time, if possible.
