Oasi Della Birra in Testaccio

The sign outside of Oasi della Birra reads “Palombi Enoteca,” but rest assured that you have arrived at the oasis of beer.

The bottle shop turned bar and restaurant is one of Testaccio’s most popular watering holes.

Set on the edge of the piazza (main square), the bar has a list of hundreds of beers to choose from. Most are imported bottles, though there are a few beers on tap as well. Rather than modern craft brews, the bar tends towards classic Belgian and German beers with a few surprises.

There is also a small list of wines by the glass, and classic Italian cocktails like a spritz are always available.

The best seats are outside on the few picnic tables that make up the street side terrace. More seats are available in the basement-esque main dining room.

Casual and popular, Oasi della Birra might be best known for its aperitivo (happy hour) buffet. For just €10, a full spread of cheeses, meats, and cold pastas are included all-you-can-eat style, along with a beer or a glass of wine.

If you miss happy hour, there is also a menu full of bruschetta and a few pastas to tide you over in between drinks.
