Every now and then, you just have to make the time for an aimless wander through Trastevere.
Trastevere is one of Rome’s most charming quartiere (neighborhoods).
It is easy to be enchanted by the candy-colored walls and the ubiquitous laundry strung out over the cobblestone streets.
I love trying to spot some new (to me) madonnelle stradaiole – shrines featuring the Madonna and child.
But my favorite thing to do of all is get a little bit lost in the winding alleyways.
Perhaps stop by the piazza to see who is around.
And continue on without any set destination to explore the back streets that are filled with more cats than people.
Trastevere is a neighborhood still coming to grips with its own popularity, but there are quiet corners if you let yourself go off the map.
