Mozzarella di Bufala Addiction

I steered clear of what I secretly thought was “water-y cheese” for some time.

Not wanting to be rude at dinner one night, I apprehensively took my first bite. I’m pretty sure my exact words were:

“Oh my God! It tastes like string cheese! Without the stringiness!”

Ever since that eloquent awakening, I’ve become addicted to mozerella di bufala.  In fact, on more than one occasion, I’ve found myself thinking, “If I ever decide to move away from Italy, how will I get this cheese?”

No joke.

I can’t keep mozzarella in the house any more because my pre-meal reasoning usually goes something like this:
What should I make for lunch? Maybe a salad with some mozzarella on top? Or a pizza with mozzarella on top? Or… just mozzarella di bufala?”

So here’s what I had for lunch yesterday:

Mozzarella, tomato, and basil. Perfection.

Which is why I mighty displeased to log online after lunch yesterday and read that 70% of Italian Mozzarella is contaminated.

That might just bit the little tidbit of information I need to get my cheese addiction under control. Yuck!

    OM NOM NOM.

    Mozzarella di bufala is AMAZING.

I’ve also developed a slight cheese addiction since moving to Italy, I never used to eat much at home, just maybe a bit of Cheddar that always used to be in the fridge, but here it’s a very different story!!

Caprese salad! We had it with/for almost every meal in Italy. It is so refreshing and yummy. Please don’t tell me any more about the contamination. I prefer to remain ignorant.

If anything, you have diverted me from every trying this “water-y cheese”. How is it, that you start off screaming praises and flip-flop to, ‘well, yeah…it’s great, but its gross at the same time’ Of course, I’m paraphrasing.

    Welcome to my world.
If you’re a mozz-junkie like me, then you’ll soon be adding BURRATA–one of life’s biggest pleasures–to your list of indispensables.
Cutting open your first burrata, and seeing its creamy filling ooze out of the perfect leaf-wrapped mozzarella pouch, will be like a baptism of fire, there will be no turning back.

    Now I want some.
