What IS This?

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your eyes- and your extensive knowledge of all things Italian.

What IS this:

All the holiday fairs means lots of candy stands and this fruit is mocking me from the stalls. Every vendor I meet, I ask “Come si chiama in inglese?” What is it called in English?

“Non esiste.” It doesn’t exist.

But I KNOW this fruit. There is something so familiar about this fruit and I simply cannot accept that it doesn’t exist outside of Italy.

YES! Thank you so much, that was driving me crazy. THAT’S why it’s so familiar… I was a vegan/vegetarian for a long time, so I always saw it in health food stores, but only cooked with it in powdered form.

Could it be carob? In Spanish it is called “algarroba”. I’ve looked for the translation and it’s carob.

I had to ask my mom because I didn’t remember the name in Spanish either! hehe
