November is shaping up to be a busy month in Rome. I am most excited to see the Trevi Fountain in all its gleaming glory after more than a year of restorations.
Rome can be terrible when it comes to marketing what is going on, so I am making a first attempt to gather together a round up of events in Rome in November.
November 2015 highlights include: (and for November 2016 events in Rome see this post).
1 November: Free Sunday at Rome’s state-run museums for residents. (Note: they do often ask for ID to confirm residency).
1-30 November: For the entire month, Rome will be opening some of its beautiful palazzi that are normally closed to the public for Palazzi di Roma a Porte Aperte. To tour the palaces, you must book in advance. A schedule and more information is available in Italian here.
3 November: Unveiling and re-opening of the Trevi Fountain after being closed for restoration since July 2014. It looks gorgeous, so be sure to pass by!
8 and 22 November: Vintage Market in the ex-Teatro Quirinetta. From 11-20h, you can find everything from retro shops to brunch and music offerings.
8, 15, 22 and 29 November: Concerts in the Pauline Chapel at the Palazzo del Quirinale. Enjoy a range concerts, including jazz and classical at 11:50 am each Sunday in November for just €1.50
14-15 November: Wine tastings with winemakers from Piemonte at the Westin Excelsior in Rome. Saturday the 14th from 12:30-19:30, and Sunday the 15th from 12-20. Admission is €20, which is not a bad price considering the focus is nebbiolo and you will be able to try Barolos and Barbarescos!
14-29 November: The Roma Jazz Festival is on for its 39th edition in the Eternal City. Jazz musicians from around the world will perform at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, with tickets starting at €22 depending on the concert.
18-22 November: Want to stay in Rome for free? Well, it is (bizarrely) B&B Bartering Week! If you are willing to share a service, or some labor, you can contact the listed B&Bs to pitch them with an offer to trade in exchange for free accommodation.
20 November: Lecture by Nicholas Cullinan, Director of the National Portrait Gallery in London, titled “Cy Twombly: Rewriting History” at 18:00 at the American Academy in Rome. The Cy Twombly, Photographer exhibit will also be open from 16:00-19:00.
21 November: From 8 pm to 2 am, Museums in Rome will host concerts throughout the city. The full schedule has not yet been released but more information on Musei in Musica 2015 should be available on the site later in the month. Entrance will be €1.
Through 8 December: RomaEurope Festival 2015, with various dance performances, concerts and theatre events in venues across the city.
Ongoing Exhibitions in Rome:
Impressionists and Modern: 62 works from the Phillips collection in Washington, including art by Goya, Van Gogh, Rothko and Picasso, to name a few! On through 14 February 2016 at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni. Husband’s report: Fantastic show.
James Tissot: This is the first exhibit of the French painter James Tissot to ever be held in Italy. My husband is a painter, so I have learned a lot about art through osmosis, but I did not know Tissot at at all. We went to the exhibition and I loved it! It is a bit pricey at €13, but the collection of art is beautiful and it has a heavy focus on fashion (which might be why I loved it). Tissot is on through 21 February 2016 at Chiostro del Bramante.
Balthus: Nearly 150 works from the Parisian-born artist at Villa Medici through 31 January 2016.

So sad I won’t be there, I can only imagine the excitement (and the crowds!) as the Trevi is unveiled tomorrow! My boyfriend is heading to Rome this month, the lucky sod, I’ll have to tell him about the Porte Aperte – it’s too good to miss! xxx
