Entertainment in Piazza Navona

Piazza Navona is a must-see in Rome.  The famous square hosts some of the most beautiful fountains in Rome.  Though, one Roman man tried to do some serious damage to the Moor Fountain at the south end of Piazza Navona last week.

In addition to countless art sellers, the Brazilian embassy and plenty of tourists, it is also the favorite haunt of several Rome street performers.  Clowns, questionably talented break dancers… you name, Piazza Navona has got it.

But the most unique of all? Marcel.

Marcel has spent years honing his craft.  He is the best finger puppeteer you will ever lie eyes on.

He is also very intense, which is why this picture is blurry.  He cannot be captured in mere mortal photography.

Do NOT miss his Michael Jackson routine.  Not to ruin the surprise, but that little foot petal you see on the ground controls the smoke.

I know it is a tourist trap and hunting ground for pick pockets, but I can’t help it – this was my absolute favorite piazza in all of Rome. It is coming up on a year since we were there and I’m aching to return and jealous that you may be renewing for another year. Thank you for sharing these little snippets of your Italy adventure with friends and strangers…it brings a little piece of heaven into my world every time you post.

hi , just returned from italy rented apartment for 2 weeks , I saw this guy his routine was good, Michael doing the moon walk was cool as was the smoke and music, as were the other intertainers, One guy in a staight jacket and pad looked and got out, There was a young boy who painted a mini landscape scene on a 4×4 square with his fingers, and razor blade, amazing to watch, and he sold them for 5 dollars , i just had to buy one. Piazza novana was my favorite spot, i went there daily i think, even if to just sit and watch , or have a glass of wine. I had no problems in italy with pick pockets, But i did carry a small purse, and carried it across my chest in front of me, so it wasn’t in arms reach of a pick pocket, and i was aware of it at all times. I thank you for your web site, all your suggestions were great and so helpfull, i went to all the places you wrote about, to all the best gelato places, After i had enough pasta and wanted something else, i went to dakota’s not far from the panthom, for 7 dollars I got a great big greek salad, bersutta, and drink. So at the ending of my trip and running low on cash , i ate there again, I also tried your favorite cheese, very good. It was good in my salads, and was good with the bottles of wine i brought back , When i got the cheese , The man at the store suggest a really good wine to go with it, they were Great together. Agin THANKS for all your helpful sugesstions. DENA
